I’ve spent a good few days researching Don’s great uncle Luke Sifird who was killed 29 July 1916 at the Battle of Posieres …omg, what a hell hole that was! There are more Australians sown in that earth than anywhere and much tougher than Gallipoli. It has had me in tears.
A hell hole it was indeed. Gallipoli comes to the forefront of everyone’s minds on ANZAC Day, however, there were many muddy, bloody battles after that. And don’t mention the gas bombings. Horrific stuff.
I think of great grandfather at these times. He was eventually transferred to the Salvage Company, once his age was realised, but would have seen many horrific things in that time, let alone getting close to being killed himself when salvaging the spent or unspent bombs, rifles etc. too much for us to comprehend over 100 years on.

It's great that you are keeping his story alive Jenny.
By telling his story Jenny you ensure that Edward Augustus Cash will not be forgotten
Thank you. Lest We Forget.
I think they find you, or you find them, and ever after they find a niche in your heart.
They have a way of calling us to remember them.
